We are FIRST Tech Challenge team 15772, Brady Goats. Our team is a club based out of Bishop Brady High School in Concord, New Hampshire. This is the third season of our team. Brady Goats started out as a classroom team two years. We started the rookie season a bit late but after forming the team, we worked in class as well as after school to refine our robot and engineering notebook. We attended scrimmages to prepare us for the NH FTC State Championship in February. At that championship event, our team was thrilled to be part of the winning alliance!
Our second year has been our most successful yet. We started with some summer work. We worked after school and on weekends to create a competitive robot and prepare for competitions. Also, we did many outreach and volunteer events. We ended the season with many awards, the most notable to winning alliance first pick and Inspire Award Winner for the NH State Championship, as well as the winning alliance captain for the VT State Championship.
This year, our team is made up of 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshmen. All students on the team attend BBHS. Many of the team members have been members of FIRST Lego League and some members are currently on a FIRST Robotics Competition team. Our team has learned a lot about designing and programming our robot. We have also really enjoyed all the great outreach opportunities that we participated in.
Meet Our Team!
Below, see our biographies of each person on our team. We also have many roles, needing each other to have a good, functioning team.
We have two coaches, one mentor, and seven students on the team!
Student: Angelica
Angelica is a junior at BBHS and has many roles on the team, including head programmer, business lead, and safety captain. She did 3 years of FLL focusing on the project side and 3 years of FRC focusing on the business, safety, and programming, getting to travel far for both robotics teams (California, Australia, Worlds 2018). This is Angelica’s third year in FTC. Angelica is very interested in veterinary medicine and wants to be a veterinarian when she is older. Last year, Angelica was a FIRST Dean's List Finalist!
Student: Colby
Colby is a sophomore at BBHS. He is the backup programmer and backup operator. This is his second year participating on a robotics team. He has attended robotics camps and STEM camps which have helped prepare him for his robotics class and participation on this team. Colby intends to pursue a career in engineering.
Student: Greg
Greg, a sophomore at BBHS, is the head of battery management, as well as a member of the scout and mechanical teams. Greg had competed in FIRST Lego League for two years. This is Greg’s second year competing in FTC. Greg has played the violin for around nine years, and, as of late 2019, has begun playing the viola as well. Greg also enjoys playing hockey on the Bishop Brady boys varsity hockey team. Greg is also a good photographer, as he had won two first place awards in adult categories for his nature photography.
Student: James
James is a senior at BBHS and has a very STEM focused future. This is his 3rd year on the team, but he’s also been involved with FRC and FTC in the past. His role this year has been leaning toward scouting, strategy, and mechanical. James wants to learn to CAD and program next year, so he can contribute even more to the team. Outside of school he likes to ski-race competitively. But rather than ski-race for a living, he would like to pursue mechanical and robotic engineering or computer science.
Student: Julie
Julie is a junior at BBHS and is a programmer for Brady Goats. This is her first year on a FIRST team. Outside of FTC, Julie plays field hockey and participates on the Math Team.
Student: Nick
Nick is a senior at BBHS and his role on the Brady Goats is team captain as well as design lead. He was on an FLL team for four years, mostly working on the design and programming of the robot. He was also on an FRC team for two years, mostly working with Solidworks CAD. Two years ago, he mentored the Brady Goats. This year is his second year as a member on the team. Nick’s interests include watching sports, playing basketball, and playing frisbee with friends.
Coach: Mrs. Whitney
Mrs. Whitney is a high school robotics teacher. She mentors on the Engineering Notebook, judged awards, and on the business side of things. She has coached an FLL team for 4 years, mentored an FRC team for 3 years, and this is her third year coaching an FTC team. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her kids. Mrs. Whitney likes inspiring kids in the area of STEM and teaching them that being on a robotics team is not all about just building a robot.
Coach: Mr. Whitney
Mr. Whitney is a mechanical engineer at Aavid, Thermal Division of Boyd Corporation. He mentors the team on the mechanical and electrical side of the robot. He has coached an FLL team for 4 years, mentored an FRC team for 3 years, and this is his third year coaching/mentoring an FTC team. Mr. Whitney is interested in metal detecting and cars.
Mentor: Mr. Blais
Mr. Blais is an engineer at Autodesk, Inc. He previously mentored FTC team 9620 and coached FTC team 3677. He mentors the team on the software side of the robot.
Mentor: Mrs. Carroll
Mrs. Carroll is a former teacher who decided to stay at home with her youngest child. When the opportunity for FIRST came along she was overwhelmed and impressed. This season, a greater role with the business side of the team became part of her mentoring. To her, each year has brought a greater sense of what Gracious Professionalism is all about and how these students exemplify it.
